experimentalphil - Experimental Philosophy Club

Subject: Experimental Philosophy Club

Description: Experimental Philosophy Club (EPC) is a journal club focusing on all aspects of experimental evolution, we meet every two weeks on a Thursday late afternoon/early evening.

EPC is a little different to most journal clubs you are familiar with. Firstly, no presentations (of any kind!). Secondly, a lot more eating. Thirdly, everyone who comes will be encouraged to really engage with the group discussion, regardless of whether you are a distinguished PI or 1st year PhD student. Although many of us work on microbial experimental systems, any work in experimental evolution is open to debate.

Each meeting is chaired by a different person who will also select the paper. The chair will guide the discussion, but everyone is be expected to have read the paper before the meeting, there will be no presentation to guide you through it. One final rule; everyone has to play nice. The point of EPC is for everyone to have the opportunity to learn, to critically analyse and discuss new articles, without fear of being told their paper was a terrible choice because of X, Y and Z.

In the past these meetings have been held in Ashworth, at the pub or sometimes at EPC members houses. Regardless of where we choose to be, the consumption of food is to be encouraged. At Ashworth snacks could be collectively sourced, or at the pub food can be purchased.
