By integrating visual and tactile sen sory modalities\, robots attain a deeper understanding of their surroundin gs\, facilitating perception for agile grasping and manipulation. Drawing upon recent advancements in tactile sensor development including GelTip\, TouchRoller and RoTipBot\, multimodal integration\, and simulation techniq ues\, I will delve into the foundations of visuo-tactile learning and its implications for robotics. Through case studies and experimental insights\ , I will share how this paradigm shift in robotic perception enhances adap tability\, dexterity\, and autonomy.\n\nBio: Prof. Shan Luo is a Full Prof essor in Robotics and AI at King’s College London\, where he leads the R obot Perception Lab and directs research on tactile sensing\, multimodal p erception\, and robot dexterity. He obtained his PhD in Robotics from King ’s College London in 2016 and was a visiting researcher at the Massachus etts Institute of Technology (MIT) Computer Science and Artificial Intelli gence Laboratory (CSAIL). Following his PhD\, he held research positions a t the University of Leeds and Harvard University\, joined the University o f Liverpool as a Lecturer in 2018\, before returning to King’s College L ondon in 2021. He has published over 100 papers in leading journals and co nferences\, including Nature Communications\, IEEE Transactions on Robotic s (T-RO)\, ICRA\, IROS\, RSS\, ICML\, CVPR\, and ECCV. He is currently an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Robotics and a Senior Area Chair for RSS 2027. He has also served in editorial roles for major robotics co nferences including ICRA\, IROS\, CoRL and AAAI. He led the highly success ful T-RO Special Collection on Tactile Robotics\, which attracted a record breaking number of submissions. He has secured significant research fundi ng from major UK and international agencies and industry partners\, includ ing EPSRC\, AHRC\, Innovate UK\, the Royal Society\, and Unilever\, with o ver £4.4 million as Principal Investigator and more than £13 million as Co-Investigator. Prof. Luo is an EPSRC Open Fellow\, a Turing Open Source AI Fellow\, and a Hi! Paris Visiting Chair. Prof. Luo’s accolades also i nclude the EPSRC New Investigator Award\, UK-RAS Early Career Award\, and Faculty Learning & Teaching and Student Experience Award.\n\nKind regards\ ,\n\nAndrew\n\n\n_________________________________________________________ _______________________\nMicrosoft Teams meeting\nJoin: https://teams.micr osoft.com/meet/397642900544482?p=pAWO8oSC7qWgGbbwOD\nMeeting ID: 397 642 9 00 544 482\nPasscode: be9ER2tE\n________________________________\nNeed hel p?<https://aka.ms/JoinTeamsMeeting?omkt=en-GB> | System reference<https:// teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_OWQ2ZGQ2ZDMtNTJmNi00MzZkLTg 2NWYtZmVkNDVjOTk1YmY1%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%222e9f06b0-166 9-4589-8789-10a06934dc61%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22e361e7b5-d66e-470e-9272-be8eb 05a925e%22%7d>\nDial in by phone\n+44 20 3855 5143\,\,716796588#<tel:+4420 38555143\,\,716796588#> United Kingdom\, City of London\nFind a local numb er<https://dialin.teams.cloud.microsoft/41ca4bf1-0212-4fa6-bde8-4d05362d34 46?id=716796588>\nPhone conference ID: 716 796 588#\nFor organisers: Meeti ng options<https://teams.microsoft.com/meetingOptions/?organizerId=e361e7b 5-d66e-470e-9272-be8eb05a925e&tenantId=2e9f06b0-1669-4589-8789-10a06934dc6 1&threadId=19_meeting_OWQ2ZGQ2ZDMtNTJmNi00MzZkLTg2NWYtZmVkNDVjOTk1YmY1@thr ead.v2&messageId=0&language=en-GB> | Reset dial-in PIN<https://dialin.team s.cloud.microsoft/usp/pstnconferencing>\n[Company Logo]\nThe University of Edinburgh is a charitable body\, registered in Scotland\, with registrati on number SC005336.
